Add New Truck Containers for Inventory Sets

Contents

Background

This SOP is for the process of adding new truck bins and identifiers. Here at ASAP Appliance Repair, each vehicle is stocked with generous, fast-moving appliance parts. We use clear, tough containers from Home Depot, and we put customized labels on them. As previously explained, each truck stock is divorced from the actual truck, eg Truck Stock Set #1 Emp Name, #2 Emp Name, etc - this allows for rapid moving of a inventory set in case or a vehicle breakdown, swap out in minutes. The high level is purchasing the sets from Home Depot or Amazon and custom labels from Amazon and shipping to the employees home ( for remote techs ) or the local office ( for techs in centralized metros ).

We have 2 major sections: Truck Bins & Bin Bin Accessories used for small parts.

Field Views

Rapidly changing the inventory set from one van to another after a breakdown in the field. This was done while the tech was working in the customer's home. The tech was back up and running in 20 minutes. Unnoticed to the tech or the customer.

8-9 of these easily fit into a minivan, with 500+ parts easily contained making for an incredible First Call Complete Arsenal

Floating / Returns Bin Explanation

We have a special bin titled "Floating/Returns". Although we have 500+ parts that we keep in special as part of a regular inventory, it's not always clear to the text which ones are inventory or not. As a matter of fact, I forget myself. This is a general catch-all bin that we use for (A) Triage appliance parts that were ordered that shouldn't be put into inventory, (B) Cores (C) ad hoc parts that are needed for an upcoming job, and (D) "I have no idea, parts. We'll figure it out when all the parts are reviewed on Friday.

The reason why we used a vinyl record album case as opposed to their Home Depot cases is because this one is more vertically proportioned and makes it easier to put in the front seats since we're running out of room in the van. So, this one usually goes in the front seat of the vehicle.
